Namma Angadi (Our
Shop)
Namma Angadi is a
collective marketing network for young traditional crafts persons of
Karnataka. It was set up in 1993 to help village based craftsmen, who
could not visualise a future for their occupations in the village markets
due to lack of raw materials and demand for traditional products. This led
to a large number of migrants, especially children, who moved to urban
areas in search of jobs and livelihood.
CWC began to assist rural
artisans and ex-child workers to improve and upgrade their skills, produce
new products that are innovative, cost effective and environmentally
friendly, and help them locate raw materials so as to meet the demands of
the present day market.
The products made for Namma
Angadi are designed and made through interventions from various experts
and advanced training for graduate students. It is managed by
Namma
Sabha.
Currently Namma Angadi has
two outlets - one in
Namma
Bhoomi, Kundapur, one in CWC Office,
Bangalore
As a homage
to Sri. Pattabhirama Reddy, who guided our organisation since its formation
earlier as one of our founding directors, and later as our President, a
Southern Regional Artist Camp was jointly organised by the Concerned for
Working Children (CWC) and the Artist Forum, Udupi in August 2007.
Most of the
paintings in this exhibition are outcomes of this camp held at Namma Bhoomi,
CWC’s Regional Resource Centre in Kundapur Taluk, Karnataka.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all
the artists
