'Say no to Child Marriage' Campaign
A Complete Overview

Let us join hands in bringing an end to one of the most severe violations of children’s rights – child marriage. We are planning to launch a state-wide campaign to demand for immediate Government action to end the practice of Child marriages in Karnataka. We appeal to NGOs, the Media, children's organisations and the general public to support this campaign and put an end to this atrocity.

In October we submitted a petition to the Chief Minister

On 14th November 2005, 300 children and adults gathered at Cubbon Park to protest against the continued apathy of the government to act against child marriages. They submitted their petition to the Chief Minister, the Minister, Department of Public Instruction and the Minister, Department of Women and Child Development, in which they urge the Government to take concrete measures to ensure that no child in Karnataka is ever forced to enter into such exploitative and abusive ‘contracts of marriage’. The 'Say No to Child Marriage' Campaign is on full steam. A Children's Consultation is on the anvil and the field staff is campaigning aggressively to drive home the point. Pictures speak better than words, click here for photographs of this campaign.

On March 13, the campaign met with the Principal Secretary, Department of Woman and Child Development, Government of Karnataka. The meeting was productive and offers new hope.

On April 29, 2006, the Campaign met the Chief Minister. It was a resounding success!

On August 24th 2006, the ideal marriage programme was held.
